4 Reasons To Hire A Professional to Paint Your Interior Walls
Sometimes, we get the urge to paint the interior walls of our houses on our own. While this might seem like a cost-effective option, it might end up costing you more in the long run if you don’t have the right knowledge and tools for the job.
1. Professionals Protect Your Furniture & Valuables
At On The Spot Painting, we can’t think of anything worse than paint splatters on furniture or other valuable items. Professional painters will always protect everything in the space, using the appropriate tools and materials so that your items stay safe at all times throughout the process.
2. Experience Equals Efficiency & High-Quality
On The Spot Painting have over 20 years experience, which is ample time to perfect the painting techniques that are required to produce a high-quality paint job every single time. Knowing the best painting tips puts us a step above other less-experienced painters and allows us to offer customers a 100% happiness guarantee with our services.
3. Save Your Time
It’s very tempting to complete a painting project by yourself, but hiring a professional frees up your time to spend it doing what you really want to be doing instead. Experienced painters can paint 3x faster than beginners – and often with better results – so what may end up taking you weeks of painting during your free time could take professionals less than a day to complete.
4. Attention to Detail
Painting contractors are well-known for paying attention to the minor details that non-professionals may miss and we’re no different at On The Spot Painting. Our painters have a keen eye for detail, meaning we go above and beyond when creating your perfect freshly painted space.
Our Interior Painting Process
Over the years, we’ve developed a tried-and-tested six step process for interior painting to make sure you’re getting the look that you want, and that you’re happy with the service from start to finish. Our standard process involves:
Step 1: Colour Selection
As part of our colour consultation, we can help you choose the right colour for your walls. With over 20 years of experience, we know how to colour match existing paint, use colour mixing techniques to create unique blends, help you decide on your colour scheme, as well as make recommendations based on your style and current interior design.
Step 2: Area Preparation
We know how important your furniture & valuables are, so we focus on providing a thorough job at covering up anything that doesn’t want to be painted. We use drop cloths, painter’s tape, protective sheets and tack cloth to ensure every part of your home is safe, including furniture, light switches and everything else that needs to stay paint-free.
Step 3: Preparation of Surface Areas
Whether we’re working on your walls, ceiling, kitchen cabinets, baseboards or any other surfaces, we need to ensure that we’re protecting and prepping the surface prior to using any paint.
Some surfaces need to be sanded, have holes and cracks filled in, scuffs removed, wallpaper taken down and window caulking. Our expert painters make sure to spend time on preparing the surface using the right tools to improve the overall finish.
When it comes to preparation products, using the right primer can make a huge difference to the quality of the painting results so we ensure we take the time to prep our work area before we begin.
Step 4: Paint Application
After preparing and priming your surface, we’ll then start applying premium-quality paint (Benjamin Moore, Cloverdale, Sherwin-Williams) using high-quality brushes or a roller, in multiple coats.
New paint can not only add great colour to a room, but the various finishes you can choose from can also provide quality texture too, giving a unique look to your space. With flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss, high-gloss options available to you, you can create the look you’ve always dreamed of with the help of On The Spot Painting.
Depending on the size of your room, the time it will take to complete the project will vary. However, we always make sure to work as efficiently as possible so you can get back to using your room right away.
Step 5: Clean Up
When we have completed your painting project, we will meticulously clean up the space and place furniture back as close to the original placing as possible, allowing room for the walls whilst the paint dries.
Step 6: Walkthrough Inspection
The sixth step involves walking through the freshly painted area with you so you can review the completed paint project and provide feedback to our team.
As this is perhaps one of the most important parts of our process, we always ensure that we give you enough time to inspect the space thoroughly. It’s also important to us that we’re available to answer any post-painting questions or worries that you may have too.
FAQ’s For Your Interior Painting Project
Q. What is a Fair Price for Interior Painting?
A. It’s very hard to provide an estimate without seeing the space as there are a lot of factors to take into consideration. Generally, interior painting is charged by square footage and can range between $1.50 – $4.50 per square foot depending on the aforementioned factors.
We recommend reaching out to us at On The Spot Painting for a free estimate. We will come out and visit your property to assess the area that requires painting. We will always provide you with an estimate up-front so you know what the project will cost you, before we begin working our magic.
Q2. Should A Ceiling Always Be Painted White?
A. As experienced painters, we understand that it’s best to paint your ceiling first, before moving on to your walls to cover up any potential splatters from your ceiling paint. But does your ceiling need to be painted white? Not necessarily, no.
White is a very common ceiling colour because it’s light enough to lift the space without drawing attention, it reflects light really well making a space feel brighter and airy and white goes with everything.
However, you don’t need to use white for your ceiling if you’d like to be more adventurous with your space. Whether you have a clear idea of what you want, or you’d like to talk it through with experts, we’re here to help with your ceiling painting projects.
Q3. Should You Use Latex Paint or Oil-Based Paint For Your Walls?
A. There are pros and cons for using both latex and oil-based paints on the interior walls of your home. Latex paint is typically used for longer-term flexibility as it is more resistant to chipping and cracking. Oil-based paints, on the other hand, are better suited to difficult surface textures as they stick better and allow for a smoother finish overall.
Q4. How Long Should Paint Dry Before Putting Stuff On It?
A. We understand the feeling of wanting to hang stuff on your freshly painted walls as soon as the painters leave, but you do need to leave some time so you don’t damage the wet paint.
If oil-based paints are used, it will typically be dry to the touch in 6-8 hours and be ready for a second coat in 24 hours, whereas latex paints will be dry to the touch in around 1 hour, and ready to repaint a second coat in 4 hours.
Believe it or not, the colour of the paint that is used can greatly impact the drying time. Darker, glossier colours can take longer to dry due to the high pigmentation, whereas lighter, flatter colours can take slightly less time to dry.
Q5. Is Interior Painting Safe?
A. Interior painting is typically safe as we always use high-quality paints and appropriate products. Our painters are well-educated on personal protective equipment (PPE) such as protective clothing, eye protection and some even wear rubber gloves.
We do recommend staying out of the freshly painted room whilst you let the new paint dry after our final inspection walkthrough, and keeping the space well ventilated for the few hours following to ensure you and your family aren’t inhaling any unnecessary chemicals.
